Devin Moritz Obituary, Cause of Death – McHenry, North Dakota Man Dies at 23
Authorities have identified Devin Moritz, age 23, of McHenry, North Dakota, as one of the two motorists who tragically lost their lives in a head‑on crash in Stutsman County on Friday night. The collision also claimed the life of 54‑year‑old Wyatt Ellingson of Edgeley.
The crash occurred around 10:15 p.m. on Highway 20 near mile marker 34, approximately six miles north of Courtenay and 28 miles northeast of Jamestown. According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Moritz was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup northbound at a high rate of speed when his vehicle crossed the center line into the southbound lane. His truck struck the Ellingsons’ GMC Sierra pickup head‑on.
Neither driver was wearing a seat belt, and both were pronounced dead at the scene. Wyatt’s wife, Carrie Ellingson, age 52, was a passenger in the GMC Sierra and sustained serious injuries. She was transported by ambulance to Jamestown Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The devastating accident has left the McHenry and Edgeley communities grieving the sudden loss of two lives. Devin Moritz is remembered as a young man whose life ended far too soon, leaving family, friends, and loved ones in shock and sorrow.
State Route 20 was closed for several hours as investigators documented the scene and reconstructed the crash. The North Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident and has not yet announced whether charges will be filed.
