Caden Michael Brunner of Madison, Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly on July 21, 2026, at the age of 21. He was doing what he loved most—rock climbing—when he tragically lost his grip and fell at Devil’s Lake State Park.

Born on June 1, 2005, in Madison, Caden was baptized in 2005 and confirmed in 2018 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, where he confessed his faith in Jesus Christ. His Celebration of Life service will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church on Saturday, August 8, 2026, with Rev. Mark Bartels presiding. Viewing will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the service at 11 a.m. and a luncheon afterward.

Caden graduated from Middleton High School in 2024 and attended Madison Area Technical College for one year. He was planning to continue his studies at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. A lifelong hockey player, he competed with Middleton Youth Hockey from mites through U18.

He leaves behind his parents, Michael and Heather Brunner; siblings Jayden, Trayden, and Hayven; maternal grandmother Judith Dusenberry of Hesperia, California; paternal grandparents Ronald and Donna Brunner of Cross Plains, Wisconsin; uncles Gary Jr. (Sue) and Jonathan Engen; aunt Michelle (Garth) Holcomb; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother Brayden, cousin Nathan Engen, and maternal grandfather Gary Engen Sr.

Caden was known for his adventurous spirit and fun-loving nature. He shared a deep love of music, often singing along to favorite songs with his mom and friends, and attended concerts across the country. He enjoyed boating on Wisconsin’s lakes and celebrated his 21st birthday by skydiving with his father.

Above all, Caden was a kind and caring soul, devoted to his siblings and family. His absence leaves an empty chair at the table and an irreplaceable space in the hearts of those who loved him.
